CHEMICAL COMPOSITION

Hair is comprised of Amino Acids,  Peptide Bonds, Polypeptide Chains, Keratin Proteins and Salt (Side) bonds. These are the Building Blocks of hair.

Amino Acids are compounds made up of Carbon, Oxygen, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, and Sulfur. C.O.H.N.S

Peptide bonds are the end bonds. Chemical bonds that join amino acids together.

Polypeptide Chains are formed by amino acids bonding together to form chains that intertwine in a spiral fashion.

Keratin is the protein material which makes up the majority of the hair.  Made up of approximately 19 amino acids.

Salt Bonds attract proteins to one another.  Cysteine and disulfide bonds join together to hold the hair fiber in place. These contribute the hair’s elasticity and strength.
